OzVMX was the brainchild of Graeme McElligot back in the early 2000s and initially began as a traditional website & online forum. OzVMX has developed into an ‘Institution’ in our old dirt bike community, the premier VMX site in Australia and for many years has been held in the highest regard both here and abroad. It’s the goto place for information, parts, bikes, and more often than not, some good fun online bench racing. In recent years that community has experienced healthy growth in Facebook and now Instagram.
What we have in common is we all love old dirt bikes. Some Restore them, some just ride them now and then with their mates, some still race them and some do all 3. OzVMX is all about reconnecting with why we all started riding dirtbikes in the beginning, for the fun of it. The community is open to all enthusiasts from all over the place. We are proud to say we have members all around the globe.
In September 2016 Graeme decided it was time for him to move on. The reins were graciously handed over to the current administrators managed by Kenneth Swan. Kenneth has been a dirt bike fan since he was 10 years old. During his teens through the late 70s and early 80s he raced Motocross in Hong Kong, The Philippines, Guam & Australia and found VMX through OzVMX back in 2010. He is also one of the people behind the scenes in the running of Heaven VMX events in NSW Australia and manages the Heaven VMX website and Social Media pages.
The Resto Expo came about because the new management team saw a need for a Premier Old Dirt Bike Event for NSW and being involved in the sport we kept coming across enthusiasts that had beautifully restored old dirt bikes which hardly ever saw the light of day. It was decided the Restorers needed an event where they could show their works of ‘Moto-Art’ and the rest of the old dirtbike community could appreciate them, hence the Resto Expo was born.
This site is the beginnings of the transition from the existing OzVMX.com site hosted on the Ning platform to this brand new site on more stable and versatile technology with new features we will be bringing online over the next 12 months.
